Flies On the Fly

Back when I started Battenkillfishingbook.com, I mentioned that I would be starting a very small enterprise that I have dubbed Flies on the Fly. The concept is based on the roadside vegetable and fruit stands that are so common. Why not apply this concept to offering trout flies for anglers heading off to the river in need of a few flies - on the fly.
With that in mind, I have put up one of those lending library boxes that have become very popular. Instead of books*, however, I will fill the box with flies that are appropriate to the season. Furthermore, my goal is to offer flies that are not necessarily readily available over the counter whenever possible. For instance, for our upcoming Hendrikson hatch I will have Atherton # 4 flies that are prefect for the female Hendrickson and is a pattern with a close historical connection to the river.
The pattern selection will rotate as the season progresses, with a few staples that are good no matter the time of year. There is a heavy emphasis on dry flies, though there will be nymphs and wets sprinkled in as well.
Flies will be packaged in sets of three and the cost is $10 per box. This is a competitive price, and I use high quality materials. Depending on how things go, I will look to do mixed sets, but for now it will be three flies of the same pattern in a box. One fly to lose in a tree, one to lose in a big fish's mouth (because all the fish we lose are big after all) and one to land a few fish.
The address of the box location is 123 Perry Hill Road in Shushan, located a mile from the Spring Hole on the way to Salem and Rte 22. Easy to find and close to the river. Self serve and on your way to catch a few fish.

Payment will be either cash or with Venmo. A QR code will be posted on the box.
The current selection of flies include Atherton # 4's, Red Quills, Rosenbauer Rabbit Foot Emergers, paraleps, Battenkill Flats for Hendrickson spinners and more.
Come check it out. Thanks!
*I will keep a copy or two of my book in the box as well. The price for the book will be $30 and sales of the book (above my cost) will be donated to the Battenkill Watershed Alliance.
