Hello there. My name is Doug Lyons and I am the author of Fly Fishing Guide to the Battenkill (Stackpole Books, September 2023). My book is not only a comprehensive guide to fishing the Battenkill but also includes a comprehensive history of the river as well as a detailed review of ongoing conservation efforts.
Flies on the Fly is a work in progress. The idea is based on the vegtable stands that are so common in the area but instead of vegetables, I will sell prepackaged sets of flies pertinent to the conditions. You can purchase a few flies on the fly!
I am using this space to promote the book, of course, but more importantly to provide updated fishing conditions as well as publicizing any upcoming opportunities to support the ongoing conservation / restoration activities in the watershed.
You will be able to find this information on my blog, which I will update frequently.
Finally, I present to fishing clubs and Trout Unlimited chapters throughout the Northeast and if you are interested in a presentation about the Battenkill or fly fishing by all means reach out.

Cracking the Code on the Battenkill River
I recently joined the Destination Angler Podcast to share stories and lessons from more than 50 years of fishing the Battenkill. We talked about the river’s seasonal hatches, the importance of careful wading and presentation, and the conservation work helping preserve this legendary wild trout fishery for future generations.
